Overview
The mission of Greater Linden Development Corporation is to improve the quality of life in the Greater Linden community through housing and economic development, planning, coordinating of services, and other community-building activities. GLDC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency regulated by a 24-member board of trustees who represent various sectors of the Linden community and partner organizations. The Greater Linden Development Corporation has been serving the Linden community since 1994.
History
Greater Linden Development Corporation was created as a direct result of resident involvement in determining the future course of Linden through the South Linden Development Project conducted by Downtown Columbus, Inc. From its beginning, GLDC has continuously worked to revitalize the Linden community and improve the quality of life for area residents and businesses. GLDC has done this through a comprehensive strategy incorporating initiatives in each of the following program areas:
- Business and Economic Development
- Housing
- Community Development
- Planning and Coordination
- Community Safety and Beautification
Philosophy
GLDC is and always has been a fundamentally “collaborative” organization. From its very origins, GLDC emerged from a project involving representatives from numerous community organizations. The inherent nature of GLDC’s programs requires extensive community outreach; continual networking with numerous agencies, City departments, and neighborhood organizations; as well as participation by GLDC staff on various boards and committees. GLDC is a “team player” and attempts to maximize its impact on the community by working in partnership with other organizations that bring the needed expertise, experience, or commitment to each project.
